Spring is finally here! Spring and summer come with many outdoor activities, including gardening, mowing, and other forms of yard work. All of this yard work can cause great strain on your back and muscles. We want to make sure you use proper form to prevent any injuries. We recommend that before you start any sort of yard work, you should start your season with a check up from 360 Chiropractic.

Our chiropractors will make sure your back is aligned and in a good position to prevent any injuries while working in the yard. Once you have been checked, here are the steps you should follow to make sure you maintain good health:

  1. Stretch: Prevent injuries by stretching first.  Pick stretches that will work your lower back as well as your upper body and arms.
  2. Good form: Having good posture is extremely important to protect your back.  If you have improper posture, it creates pressure on joints and discs. This could lead to muscle spasms. Instead of bending with your back, hinge forward at your hips and bend with your knees.
  3. Change tasks: If you have been doing one task, such as gardening, for too long, switch it up.  Repetitive motions can lead to injuries, so it is important to change it up so you aren’t doing the same thing for too long.
  4. Take breaks: Listen to your body. If you are feeling overheated or exhausted, make sure to take a break. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and keep your joints well-lubricated for yard work.
